Microsoft Flight Simulators biggest draw apart from the stunning graphics and realistic flight controls, is the ability to fly anywhere on earth. We’ve all heard about the Bing maps satellite integration in this game meaning every city, town and landmark should be very visible to fly over and identify.
What’s the first most recognisable place did I virtually visit? My home town to find my house of course! Yes, the above image is my small country town, taken from my very first flight (after the quick training missions to get me in the air and back to land safely). The roads/ layout incredibly accurate, I found my way from the local airport to the Main Street, lowered my airspeed so I could follow the roads I drive every day, then found my house……
Apparently I have solar panels installed on my roof and my shed is connected to the back of my house. And my neighbours pool is missing!
Ok, I was never expecting a perfect representation of every single town, city, suburb. So far I’m impressed that the layout of my town is nearly spot on. Buildings are all kind of in the right place, just don’t expect them to be the same size/shape as the real life equivalent. I’ve only scoped out my local area and in the full review I’ll cover some of the large cities which might be more accurate than my comparatively bare neighbourhood.
